The companion codex to the field guides — the Grimoire / lore-book-tier story buried under twelve years of Destiny. The campaigns hand you the surface plot. This corner spends its words on what's hidden underneath it: the Gardener and the Winnower parable that, on this codex's reading, explains the whole war, the buried histories of the major powers, and the figures the reveals turn on. Five pages, one continuous thread from the empty board before the sky all the way to Renegades, where the Fate Saga — and Destiny 2's story — leaves off. Pick a door.
The lore splits five ways. Read them in any order — they cross-reference constantly — but if you only open one, make it the Cosmology: it's the rules everything else runs on. Each page assumes you know the campaign plots and spends its words on the buried half.
The stuff the campaigns never say outright. The Gardener and the Winnower, Light and Dark as Sky and Deep, the Flower Game and the Final Shape, the first knife, the Veil, the Sword Logic, and paracausality. Why, on this codex's reading, the whole war is one argument about whether existence should keep changing.
Open the cosmologyEvery race with its buried backstory. The Hive's bargain with the Worm Gods, the Vex and the Black Garden, the Cabal empire, the Eliksni and their lost Riis, the Awoken born between Light and Dark, the Exos and Warminds, the Nine — and the Witness and its Disciples, the dead civilization that became one mind.
Coming soonThe villains and lore-keepers the reveals hinge on — Oryx and Savathûn, Xivu Arath and the Disciples Rhulk and Nezarec, Calus, the Sovs, the Bray legacy and Rasputin, Eris Morn, Toland, Osiris, the Drifter, and Mithrax. The people whose choices set the whole story turning.
Coming soonA short orientation, plus the one rule that governs this whole corner of the site.
A codex, not a wiki dump. It's written for someone who has played the game and wants the hidden story — the lore-book reveals you never see unless you read every tab. It assumes you know the campaign plots; it spends its words on the half buried underneath.
Names use the in-universe spellings — Eliksni, Savathûn, Auryx, Xivu Arath. Where the community genuinely debates a point, or a claim is this codex's reading, it's flagged as such rather than stated flat.
This codex now covers the entire story — Destiny 1 and 2 from before the sky through the close of the Light & Darkness Saga (with its Episodes Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy) and both chapters of the Fate Saga: The Edge of Fate and Renegades, plus the Monument of Triumph epilogue that ends it.
“In the morning, the gardener pushed seeds down into the wet loam of the garden to see what they would become. In the evening, the winnower reaped the day's crop and separated what would flourish from what had failed.”
