Scourge of the Past is a heist gone wrong beneath your own City: Siviks's Fallen have the Black Armory's most precious vault under siege. You follow the thieves' trail down to reclaim the Armory's secrets, and a boss called Insurrection Prime stands between you and the vault.
Everything the raid does to you — the rooftop map-reading, the burning tunnels, a boss waiting at the bottom — is you reading the thieves' own trail backward to catch them at the bottom. Ada-1 says Siviks wanted far more than a forge to steal, and that he tore many pages from the founder's personal journals. The game never says why.
This raid doesn't descend into an ancient tomb — it drops into the wreckage of the Last City, where the Kell's Scourge, a Fallen syndicate, has the Black Armory's most precious vault under siege.
Scourge of the Past does not descend into an ancient tomb — it drops into the ruins of your own home. Beneath the scarred Last City, the Kell's Scourge, a Fallen syndicate led by Siviks, has the Black Armory's most precious vault under siege. Ada-1 says Siviks was after "much more than simply stealing and abusing our forge", and that "Our very soul resides in that vault." Separately, Ada-1's Black Armory Papers interaction concerns the founder's journals, with many pages torn from their bindings.
The raid is a chase downward. From the rooftops and streets above, through the sewers, to the vault itself, you are reading the thieves' own trail to follow where they went — which is why the whole encounter runs on a 'map reader' calling hidden information the rest of the team can't see. The game never explains the fire you outrun in the tunnels.
Waiting at the bottom is Insurrection Prime: the raid's final boss. Read it as the Scourge's ideology made metal. You beat it, but the thread does not end there: Ada-1 later sends Guardians after the journal pages the Kell's Scourge still hold, through the Fallen forge ignitions.
A raid this small hangs on three names: the Kell who orders the theft, the Exo who sends you after it, and the long-dead founder whose journals he tore apart.
The Spider's impudent brother, in the Spider's own words, who by the Spider's account did a stint in the Prison of Elders. Where the Spider runs organized crime, Siviks is the Kell's Scourge leader the Black Armory blames for stealing and abusing its forge and for tearing pages from its founder's journals. The Anarchy lore entry shows the brothers' split below.
The Exo custodian and heir of the Black Armory who frames the whole operation, calling the Armory's vault its 'most prized possession' and its founder's journals 'the soul of our organization'. She tasks Guardians with recovering the missing pages from the Kell's Scourge, tying the raid into the Forge questlines.
One of the Armory's three co-founders and Ada-1's mother, named in the journal lore entries, whose personal journals are the Black Armory Papers. Ada-1 says Siviks tore many pages from them and that they must be recovered if the Armory is to know what he is after. What the pages hold is never stated.
Read as a narrative, the mechanics stop being arbitrary. Every reader call, every burning tunnel, every boss phase is one step in following the thieves down and taking back what they stole.
A rooftop reader calls which chargers are live while the ground team breaks the shields on Black Armory Berserkers and carries their radiant batteries to the matching stations. Lighting the map opens the next objective. It reads as an early example of Destiny's 'one player reads, the team acts' motif.
The team spills into the sewers and a flaming Servitor, Ablazed Glory, gives chase down the tunnels. The game never says why it burns. Sparrows are how you outrun it.
At the vault stands Insurrection Prime, the raid's final boss. The game's objective for it is plain: destroy it.
The reveals the raid never says out loud live in the exotic flavor text, the lore entries, and the quest items you carry back to Ada-1.
"Stick to wall, ground, human… then FFFFFRRRRRYYYYY! Hehehehehehehe."
The raid's chase exotic, an Arc grenade launcher that sticks chaining traps — its flavor text is Siviks himself, gleefully describing his own toy. It is the raid's exotic reward.
"You… as bad as all Fallen! Worse, even! A friend even to humans… All must die!"
The Anarchy lore entry stages the split between the brothers: Siviks raging at the Spider's human alliances while the Spider, unbothered, sends him off with a mocking 'Bon voyage, my friend!' The entry never names a destination; it says only that he goes 'someplace with the rest of the vermin'.
"Every second counts."
An exotic sparrow found in the raid, and its flavor text is just that one line. It suits a raid whose second act is a burning sparrow chase against the clock.
"Our very soul resides in that vault."
Ada-1 says Siviks wanted far more than a forge to steal and abuse. In the Black Armory Papers she adds that he tore many pages from the founder's journals, and recovering those pages is what she asks of you.
Scourge of the Past sits firmly in the Light and Darkness Saga, in its Year 2 'Black Armory' stretch — in a City still in ruins and, by the Spider's account, after Siviks's stint in the Prison of Elders. It is a self-contained Fallen crime story rather than a cosmic-stakes beat, but it fills in the Last City's post-war rebuilding and the Black Armory's history.
Its lasting saga role is connective tissue. The missing journal pages stay with the Kell's Scourge, and Ada-1 sends Guardians after them through the Fallen forge ignitions. Mechanically, it also reads as an early example of the 'map reader / read-and-call' role Destiny keeps reusing in later activities.
Because the raid predates the newer Fate Saga entirely, nothing here touches those events; it belongs wholly to the earlier arc and sits as vaulted history on the master timeline.
